Just How Much Rope Will PDV Be Given?

After coming to terms with the fact that the World Champions have been totally humiliated in the past three weeks it is perhaps time to look at what the heck is going on and rectify the problem before the ‘boks start springbok_shot_placement_bowwinning as many games as Bafana Bafana. Fingers are pointing pretty straight at PDV as the man who must go if the rot is going to stop and personally I believe there is merit in this. But can you see it happening? Not anytime soon.

PDV who has had the easiest Springbok coaching job in history and he seems to be able to blindly go about his business of destroying the hopes of a nation without any repercussions to his career! For pity sake how much longer must we witness this?

PDV is unable to give any logical explanations as to why Ricky Januarie played in the first two tests, or why Wynand Olivier is allowed to set foot on the field when he is light years behind in the skill required at the highest level. Jean de Villiers, Aplon, Butch and Kanko all are picked to play out of position whilst talented players such as Juan de Jonghe are given the best spectator seats.

It is all very well for John Smit to honestly say that “ the defence has been poor, the breakdown has been poor and our attack has been ordinary. We have a helluva lot of work to do...” but that is fast becoming a hollow statement as each week the boks get worse.

Just how much rope is going to be given to PDV? How can a team who beat all comers 12 months ago look like a pub team now?

The truth is that the Springboks have failed to come to grips with the new law interpretations in the game. Should they play a totally fast attacking game or go back to what they know best, playing a tightly controlled, highly structured game? PDV simply has no answer!

They have been wholly thrown out of their customary ways by opposing teams no longer kicking for touch. Former Australian coach John Connolly always said that the Springboks commence 90-percent of their attacks from line-outs, but with the opposition refusing them that base platform, they have faltered.

This confusion is only too apparent in Morne Steyn who looked like a man in two minds in Brisbane. At times, he played the old game, hoisting high kicks, but then suddenly seemed to remember the Boks wanted to play a more open one.

The finishing was deplorable, the passing hideous at times and many kicks aimless. With the 2011 Rugby World Cup on 14 months away now is the time to be brave and make the changes. For pure entertainment value PDV is world class but as a coach of the World Champions he is not even close.

dont be fooled .....its all part of the world cup strategy.... we don't want to approach the world cup as favourites now do we?...surely a period as underdogs and buffoons in total disarray would be the perfect approach to the next big ambush...and when the time comes....we'll take them down and lift the trophy as world champions for a record number of times.....we'll get written off (as planned) in the mean time, and then we'll make NZ choke again on the day like they always do the poor buggers..
